What is the difference between a phone consult and an initial evaluation?A phone consult is a free 15-minute time slot saved just for you to get all of your questions/concerns answered by the physical therapist before booking a paid initial evaluation. The initial evaluation will include the physical therapist coming to your home and doing a full assessment. After the full assessment has been done, she can recommend and co-create an individualized plan of care with you.

What should I expect at my first visit?Comprehensive conversation about your history, lifestyle, and goals. External assessment of posture, functional mobility, breathing, spine, hips, and core. Optional internal exam (always with consent) to check muscle tone, strength and coordination. Immediate treatment & home strategies so you leave with a personalized roadmap.

I’ve had a C-section. Can you still help?Absolutely! We address scar mobility, core activation, hip/pelvic stiffness, any lingering numbness or pain, and any pelvic floor symptoms. It is a myth that moms who have a c-section don't have pelvic floor concerns. Your body still adapted to grow a tiny human - all of which impact your pelvic floor in some capacity!
-
What should I wear during a pelvic floor therapy session? You should wear something that you can comfortably move around in! There will likely be a lot of movement in your plan of care.

Do I need to shave for my pelvic exams? We can't tell you how many times we hear this question. Shaving is absolutely not necessary!! Only shave if it were something you would have done regardless of whether you had a PT session or not! Come as you are :)

Do I have to do a pelvic exam? While it can be helpful to fully examine the pelvic floor muscles via an internal vaginal assessment, there are other ways the pelvic floor muscles can be assessed if someone is opting not to take part in an internal exam. The pelvic floor does not work in isolation so we will be looking at general mobility and full body movement as well. We can do A LOT without doing the internal exam, but it can be really helpful in re-training the pelvic floor muscles when some internal feedback can be provided.
-
Can my children be present during my session?Of course! The physical therapist will be traveling to you and expects that you will have your normal daily responsibilities as you go about your day. All you need to do is set aside some semi-private time to complete portions of your session. Many parts of your session can absolutely include children if needed/desired. If you are a mother, children/babies always come first! If you need to step away for a moment or feed your baby during a session, this is welcome as well!

Do I have to wait until 6 weeks postpartum to get scheduled?Nope! There is so much that can be accomplished even in those early weeks. It is actually one of my most favorite things to do! I love to check on mamas shortly after they have given birth to see how they are doing, check vitals, educate as needed, answer any burning questions, assess functional movement as you care for your new little one, and provide you will gentle exercise progression to prevent injury. Many of the gentle exercises are covered in one of your prenatal visits with me if you do the birth prep session, so that you can immediately apply those movement strategies postpartum. We hold off on any pelvic floor internal assessments until you have been cleared by your OB/midwife, which is usually around the 6 week mark.

I’m embarrassed / anxious — is that normal?100 % normal. Pelvic issues are intimate, and many clients feel nervous at first. You’ll receive a judgment-free, compassionate environment where consent, privacy, and your pace are paramount. My favorite phrase in pelvic health is "there is no such thing as TMI!" I promise you, we've heard just about everything!
